Free SEO audit

A free audit,
and a straight answer.

Give us your website address and within two working days you will know where you rank, what is holding the site back, and what we would fix first. If the honest answer is that you should not be buying SEO, that is what the audit will say.

What is in it

Six things we look at, and one of them is whether to say no

Every audit covers the same ground, because the same things go wrong. What differs is which of them is actually costing you money, and that is the part worth reading.

01

Where you actually rank

Your current positions for the terms that matter in your market, not a vanity list of phrases you already come first for. Including the ones your competitors hold and you do not.

02

What is technically broken

Pages Google cannot crawl or has chosen not to index, redirect chains, duplicate content, missing structured data, and load times measured on a phone rather than in a lab.

03

Whether your tracking is lying

A large share of the sites we look at are counting conversions wrongly: double-firing, counting page loads, or missing phone calls entirely. Everything downstream of that is a decision made on fiction.

04

Your Google Business Profile

Categories, hours, services, photographs and review recency. For a local business this is frequently doing more work than the website, and it is usually the fastest thing to fix.

05

What we would do first, and why

A short ordered list. Not forty recommendations padded out to look thorough, because a long list is how an audit avoids committing to anything.

06

Whether you should buy this at all

If your budget is too small, your market too competitive, or the honest answer is paid search rather than SEO, that is what the audit will say. We turn work down on this basis regularly.

Why we do this

The audit exists to disqualify us as much as to sell

Most agencies use a free audit as a hook: a tool-generated report with a low score on it and a call booked to explain the score. That is a sales sequence with a document attached, and everybody involved knows it.

Ours has a different job. Roughly nine enquiries in ten come down to two questions, whether the budget is there and whether we can genuinely help, and both are settled faster by looking at the site than by talking about it. We publishevery price we charge for the same reason.

Which means a fair number of audits end with us telling somebody not to buy. That their budget is better spent on paid search this quarter. That their website is losing the traffic it already has and more of it will not help. That their market is competitive enough that £497 a month will not move it, so they should either budget properly or wait.

That is a worse sales tactic and a better business. We would rather turn down work than spend a year proving to somebody that we should have.

FAQ

What people ask before requesting one

Is the audit genuinely free?

Yes, and there is no obligation attached to it. We do them because roughly nine enquiries in ten come down to whether we can actually help and whether the budget is there, and an audit settles both faster than a sales call. If the answer is that we cannot help, you keep the audit and we have both saved a fortnight.

What do I get, and in what form?

The findings themselves, written in English, within two working days. Where you rank, what is broken, what we would fix first and in what order. Not a forty-page PDF generated by a tool with your logo on the front, which is what most free audits are and which nobody reads past page three.

Do I have to get on a sales call to receive it?

No. You get the audit whether or not you ever speak to us. We will offer a call to walk through it because that is usually more useful than reading it cold, and you are free to decline and keep the document.

How long does it take?

Two working days in normal circumstances. If your site is large or something unusual turns up we will tell you it needs longer rather than rush it. An audit that arrives in ten minutes was produced by a tool and is worth what you paid.

Will you just tell me I need to buy SEO?

Not if you do not. We tell businesses to spend the money on paid search, or on fixing the website, or on nothing at all, fairly often. Our packages start at £497 a month and below that we cannot do the work properly, so if your budget is under it we will say so and point you at what to do yourself for free.

What if another agency is already working on my site?

That is a common reason for asking, and a second opinion is a reasonable thing to want. We will tell you plainly if the work looks sound, which does happen. If it does not, you will get the specifics rather than a vague suggestion that you switch to us.
