SEO for Home Services

Home services live and die on local visibility and social proof. Your customer is choosing between three names on a map, and the deciding factor is usually the review count, not the copy. We get you onto that map and keep the reviews arriving, so yours is the name they pick.

A £1,000 deposit, then 11 monthly payments, or £5,500 for the year. That buys up to five target keywords, a named consultant, and a monthly roadmap you can read in ten minutes.

How your customers search in this sector

High intent, low research. People searching here are ready to book today, which makes position in the local pack worth far more than search volume.

01

Reviews are the ranking factor

Volume and recency both count. A systematic way of asking every customer is worth more than any on-page change we could make, so we set that up first.

02

Service area, defined honestly

Claiming a fifty-mile radius dilutes you everywhere. A tight, accurate service area ranks better in the places you actually want the work.

High intent, almost no research

Someone searching "end of tenancy cleaning Sheffield" or "dog groomer near me" is not comparing six providers over a fortnight. They are booking, usually today, usually from a phone, and usually from the first two or three results they see.

That makes home services one of the purest local search markets there is. Volume matters far less than position: first for a term few people search beats eighth for one everyone does, because eighth on a mobile local search is invisible.

It also means moving from fourth to third in the map pack is worth more to you than almost anything else you could buy.

Service area, priced honestly

Most home services businesses travel to the customer, which makes the Google Business Profile service area the single most important setting you will touch. Two mistakes are common, and they pull in opposite directions.

Claiming too much. Setting the area to "Yorkshire" when you actually work within twenty minutes of Hillsborough does not extend your reach. It dilutes your relevance, and Google reads an overclaimed area as a weak signal, not an ambitious one.

Hiding the address the wrong way. If you work from home, you can and should hide the address and operate as a service-area business. What you must not do is use a virtual office or a mailbox: those get profiles suspended, and reinstatement is slow.

Set it to where you actually go, name those places on your website, and make sure the two agree.

Frequency is your unfair advantage

Home services have something most businesses do not: repeat customers on a predictable cycle. A weekly cleaner, a monthly window clean, a six-weekly groom. That changes the economics of a campaign completely.

If a customer is worth £40 a visit and stays for two years, they are not a £40 customer, they are a £2,000 one. A campaign that brings in four new regulars a month is worth far more than a cost-per-lead sum on a single booking suggests, and that is the number to use when deciding whether SEO pays.

It also means retention is worth building into the site: online booking, a rebooking prompt, and a page that makes it easy to refer a neighbour. The cheapest customer in this sector is the one you already have.

Answer the questions that come before the booking

Even in a fast-converting market there is a research layer, and almost nobody serves it. "How much does end of tenancy cleaning cost?", "how long does carpet cleaning take to dry?", "do I need to be in for a window cleaner?", "what does a groom include?"

These are the questions people ask before they ring, and answering them properly does three things: it captures the search, it removes the doubt that stops someone booking, and it gives an AI assistant a self-contained passage to quote when someone asks it the same thing.

Publish prices, or at least ranges. Almost nobody in this sector does, and it is the fastest way to become the obvious choice for the person who just wants a number.

Photos, reviews and the boring things that work

Before and after photographs work unusually well here because the result is visible: the carpet, the oven, the garden, the dog. Take them on a phone, add them to your Google Business Profile monthly, and put them on the relevant service page rather than in a gallery nobody opens.

On reviews, recency beats volume: a steady two a month reads as a busy business, twenty in one week reads as a campaign. Ask by text the same day, while the customer is still looking at the clean kitchen.

The rest is consistency: your name, address and phone identical across every directory, the right categories on your profile, and a page for each service in each town you actually serve. The full local SEO method is here, and the profile checklist is free.

What a home services campaign costs

Campaigns start at £497 a month plus VAT after a £1,000 deposit: five target keywords, five URLs, a Google Business Profile post every fortnight and a citations audit. For a home services business working one town, that is usually the right size.

Do the lifetime-value sum before you decide. If a regular customer is worth £2,000 over two years, the campaign needs to bring in roughly one new regular every three months to pay for itself, and most do a good deal better than that. If your budget is genuinely below the floor, we will tell you to do the profile work yourself and come back later.

The services this page covers

These trades share the one thing that decides the whole campaign: the customer is ready to book today, which makes a position in the local pack worth more than any amount of search volume further down the page.

  • 01

    Cleaning

Domestic and commercial cleaning services, carpet cleaners, oven cleaners, window cleaners and chimney sweeps.

  • 02

    Couriers and delivery

Courier services, same-day delivery and light transport, where B2B and consumer enquiries arrive through completely different searches.

  • 03

    Removals and storage

Removal companies, man-and-van operators and storage providers, all heavily seasonal and heavily review-driven.

  • 04

    Waste and skip hire

Skip hire, waste removal and house clearance, where publishing prices wins more jobs than anything else on the page.

  • 05

    Pet services

Dog groomers, dog walkers and pet sitters, a sector with almost no serious online competition in most towns.

  • 06

    Grounds and general

Gardeners, and the handyman trade, both found on proximity and reviews long before anyone reads the website.

How SEO works here

Four steps, then round again

SEO never finishes. The work runs on a loop, and you see the report every time round, good month or bad.

  1. Step 1Keyword research

We start with the terms that show buying intent, not the ones with the biggest numbers. Alongside those, lower-competition terms that rank sooner and bring early results.

  2. Step 2Competitor analysis

Then we look at who outranks you and why. Once we know what they are doing, we know what it takes to beat it.

  3. Step 3Implementation

The team does the work: on-page fixes, new content, links and local signals. Every item is listed in your monthly report, not buried in a dashboard.

  4. Step 4Reporting & revision

Each month you see what was done and what it moved. When something is not working, we change it rather than wait for it to come good.
