Sheffield city centre, the heart of South Yorkshire

SEO South Yorkshire

We are a South Yorkshire agency in the literal sense: the office is on Silver Street in Sheffield city centre and our best campaigns run in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley. That matters because the four towns are four different search markets, and a plan built for one wastes money in the other three. Prices are below, not behind a form.

4.9from 62 Google reviews
Prices start at£497/mo + VAT

A £1,000 deposit, then 11 monthly payments, or £5,500 for the year. That buys up to five target keywords, a named consultant, and a monthly roadmap you can read in ten minutes.

SEO in South Yorkshire

What we already know about South Yorkshire

Four towns, one county, four different fights. Sheffield is dense and contested, so it costs more to win. Doncaster is winnable and under-served. Rotherham and Barnsley have real volume that almost nobody targets properly, because every agency chasing "Yorkshire" is pointed at Leeds. That gap is your opening.

Proof you can inspect

Danum Plumbing & Heating is a Doncaster trade now on page one for its core service terms, and still there, which is the part that pays. Ask and we will open the live reporting from that account on a call. The actual dashboard, not a screenshot, so you can see what your money would be buying.

Where the campaign reaches

We run campaigns across Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley, Chesterfield and Worksop. If your customers travel to you, the campaign covers where they travel from, so you are not paying to rank in one postcode while the work comes from six.

South Yorkshire is four search markets, not one

Most agencies that say they cover South Yorkshire mean they will take your money from anywhere in it. Understanding it is different, and the difference shows up in the keyword list, which is where your budget either works or leaks.

Sheffield is the hard one. Half a million people, a dense city centre, and enough established agencies that the head terms are properly contested. Winning here means going narrower than "SEO Sheffield": Hillsborough, Ecclesall Road, Crookes, Kelham Island, and the service-plus-suburb pages the big agencies cannot be bothered to build. Those searches are smaller, but they are the ones that ring you.

Doncaster is the opposite, and it is why we know this county well. Real commercial volume, weak competition. Our own Doncaster pages sit around position 14 on 25,000 impressions without a proper rewrite in four years. For a Doncaster business that means page one is a realistic six-month target, not a two-year one, and a year of budget buys results rather than groundwork.

Rotherham and Barnsley are the under-served ones. Both have substantial trade, care and manufacturing sectors, and both get treated as spillover from Sheffield or Leeds. A Rotherham business competing on "Rotherham" terms is often up against three listings and a directory, which means a modest campaign can own the town.

So a South Yorkshire campaign should not run on one keyword set. It should run on four, weighted by where your customers actually travel from, because a keyword nobody near you searches is a keyword you are paying to rank for nothing. We ask that on the first call. Most agencies never do.

A marketing team reviewing campaign performance

Why "South Yorkshire" and "Yorkshire" are different searches

This matters more than it sounds. Someone typing "SEO agency Yorkshire" is casting wide and will settle for Leeds, York or Harrogate. Someone typing "SEO South Yorkshire" has already narrowed. They want somebody who can get to them, and they are comparing three or four local firms rather than thirty, so your odds of the enquiry are far better.

The second search converts better and is far less contested. As far as we can tell from four years of our own Search Console data, it is also almost entirely unserved by dedicated pages. The agencies ranking for it are doing so on a Yorkshire page that happens to mention the county, which means a page that actually answers it can move quickly.

We built this page because we were showing up at position 20 for a term we had never written a word about. When that happens, the market is waiting for somebody to bother. We would rather that somebody be you.

What a South Yorkshire campaign actually involves

Roughly the same work as anywhere, weighted differently. Three things carry more of the load here than in a single-city campaign, and each one shows up in your enquiry count:

  • 01

A page per town you seriously want work from

Not four near-identical pages with the place name swapped. The old version of this site did that across 288 pages and between them they produced almost nothing. One page per town, each with its own proof, service emphasis and FAQ, is fewer pages doing more work.

  • 02

Google Business Profile service areas set honestly

If you are in Sheffield and genuinely work in Barnsley, say so. If you do not, claiming it dilutes your relevance and costs you map pack positions at home. The full checklist is here, free and ungated.

  • 03

Citations that agree with each other

South Yorkshire businesses often have directory listings scattered across two or three old addresses, usually left by a previous agency. Cleaning that up is month one work, and it is often the single change that moves the map pack and gets the phone going.

What we charge, and why it is on the page

Local campaigns are £497 a month plus VAT after a £1,000 deposit, or £5,500 for the year. That covers up to five target keywords and five URLs, which is right for a single-town South Yorkshire business and wrong for one competing across all four towns. If you need four towns you need the National package, and saying so now saves you three months of paying for a plan that cannot stretch.

Three of the four agencies we benchmarked against when rebuilding this site publish no pricing at all; one states opacity as company policy. That wastes everybody’s time, yours most of all. The full price list is here, and here is what the rest of the UK market charges, including the bands we deliberately do not compete in.

A results review meeting in progress

Being found by AI assistants, not just Google

A growing share of "who does SEO in South Yorkshire" now gets asked to ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity rather than typed into Google. Those systems recommend businesses whose facts they can read and cross-check: structured data, one consistent name and address everywhere, self-contained answers to real questions, and reviews that agree with your website. Get that right and you are in the answer instead of watching a competitor take it.

We build that into every campaign as standard, so it is not another line on the invoice. Here is how we approach it, and here is the version you can do yourself.

How SEO works here

Four steps, then round again

SEO never finishes. The work runs on a loop, and you see the report every time round, good month or bad.

  1. Step 1Keyword research

We start with the terms that show buying intent, not the ones with the biggest numbers. Alongside those, lower-competition terms that rank sooner and bring early results.

  2. Step 2Competitor analysis

Then we look at who outranks you and why. Once we know what they are doing, we know what it takes to beat it.

  3. Step 3Implementation

The team does the work: on-page fixes, new content, links and local signals. Every item is listed in your monthly report, not buried in a dashboard.

  4. Step 4Reporting & revision

Each month you see what was done and what it moved. When something is not working, we change it rather than wait for it to come good.

FAQ

SEO in South Yorkshire: the questions we get asked first

Which towns in South Yorkshire do you cover?

We cover Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley as the four main markets, plus Chesterfield and Worksop where clients pull custom across the county line. The office is in Sheffield city centre. Most of the work happens over calls and shared reporting, so you are not paying for travel time, but if you want to meet first we come to you. A good share of this agency was built that way.

Is it harder to rank in Sheffield than in Doncaster?

Yes, considerably harder. Sheffield has more competitors, more agencies and denser commercial search, so head terms take longer and cost more to win. Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley are far less contested: our own Doncaster pages hold position 14 on 25,000 impressions without ever being properly worked. We tell you which market you are actually in before you commit a budget, so you are not paying Sheffield money for a Barnsley job.

Should I target "South Yorkshire" or my own town?

Your own town first, almost always. County searches convert worse because the searcher is still deciding, and they are harder to win because you are up against every firm in four towns rather than one. That is more spend for fewer enquiries. The county term earns a page once the town pages are working, not before.

How much does SEO cost in South Yorkshire?

SEO in South Yorkshire costs £497 a month plus VAT on our Local package, after a £1,000 deposit and over 11 monthly payments, or £5,500 paid annually. That is right for a business competing in one town. If you genuinely need Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley at once, five keywords will not stretch and you want the National package at £997 a month. We set that expectation on the first call so you are never sold a plan that cannot do the job.

How long before a South Yorkshire campaign shows results?

Measurable movement in eight to twelve weeks, and ranking change you can feel in the enquiry count between three and six months. The map pack can move faster, sometimes within weeks, if your Google Business Profile has been neglected, which in this county it very often has. Anyone promising page one in a fortnight is buying links or targeting terms nobody searches, and either way you pay for nothing.

Do you work with businesses outside South Yorkshire?

Yes, we work well beyond South Yorkshire. We run campaigns in Leeds, Harrogate and Rugby, and nationally for e-commerce clients. Being local helps us understand your market and turn up in person; it is not a technical requirement. If you are outside the county and the fit is right, the work, the report and the named consultant are the same.
