SEO Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a market in the middle of a long adjustment. The energy sector that shaped the city for forty years is changing, a great deal of local business is repositioning around renewables and diversifying away from oil, and search behaviour has been shifting with it. That makes it an unusual place to run a campaign, and a more interesting one than the numbers suggest.

SEO in Aberdeen

What we already know about Aberdeen

Aberdeen is the commercial centre for the whole of the north east, with a catchment reaching well into Aberdeenshire. Dyce and Westhill carry a disproportionate share of the energy and engineering economy, and Bridge of Don and the western suburbs most of the residential trade.

Proof from a comparable campaign

Cambridge Podcasts is a national campaign run entirely from Sheffield that produced organic growth of over 500% and around three extra enquiries a week. Ask and we will open the live reporting from that account on a call. The actual dashboard, not a screenshot, so you can see what your money would be buying.

Where the campaign reaches

We run campaigns across Aberdeen city centre, Bridge of Don, Dyce, Westhill, Cults and Peterculter. If your customers travel to you, the campaign covers where they travel from, so you are not paying to rank in one postcode while the work comes from six.

Why the URL says Old Aberdeen

Worth explaining, because it looks like a mistake and it is deliberate.

The previous version of this website published this page at /services/seo-services-old-aberdeen/. Old Aberdeen is the medieval burgh around the university, a small district of the modern city, and as a commercial search term it is close to worthless. Almost nobody looking for a marketing agency types it.

The URL has stayed anyway, because it has accumulated five years of history and existing redirects point at it, and renaming a URL that already carries equity to make it tidier is a good way to throw that equity away. The page is about Aberdeen, the heading says Aberdeen, and the address bar says something slightly odd. That is the correct trade and it is the same reasoning we apply to client sites during a migration.

The Aberdeen market, and what changed

For decades the search economy here followed the oil price, and a large share of commercial search was B2B: supply chain, engineering services, inspection, logistics, specialist recruitment.

That has been rebalancing for years. The energy sector is still central but a great deal of it has repositioned around offshore wind, decommissioning and the wider transition, and the businesses serving it have followed. Alongside that, the consumer economy has grown proportionally more important as the city has diversified, which means local service search matters more than it used to.

For a campaign the practical consequence is that B2B and consumer intent sit side by side here more evenly than in most cities, and a keyword list has to know which one you are selling to. A B2B engineering supplier and a domestic trades business in Aberdeen are running completely different campaigns, and lumping them together is how budgets get wasted.

Where the page sits now

Three search terms, 670 impressions, one click, average position 34.2. "SEO agency Aberdeen" is the strongest at 28.04, "SEO Aberdeen" at 36.84 and "Aberdeen SEO" at 41.21.

That is the band worth working in. Positions in the thirties mean Google already considers the page relevant enough to show, and nobody is clicking because almost nobody reaches the fourth page. The work needed to move a term from 34 to inside the top ten is real but bounded, unlike the work needed to rescue something at 88.

Competition here is lighter than the city's size suggests, largely because the agency sector is concentrated on Edinburgh and Glasgow. Aberdeen businesses are often being served by firms treating the north east as a satellite, and pages genuinely about Aberdeen beat pages that list it among areas covered.

Distance, and being straight about it

We are in Sheffield. Aberdeen is about four hundred miles north and there is no version of this where we drop in for a Tuesday meeting.

What is unaffected: the Google Business Profile work that decides most local search, the technical and content work, the reporting, and the monthly video call with a named consultant who is the person actually doing the work rather than an account manager relaying it.

What is affected: there is no in-person option, and we are not going to imply one by renting a virtual address in the city and listing it as an office. That practice is common, it is transparent to anyone who checks, and it is exactly the sort of thing our audits flag on other people's sites. If proximity matters to you, Scotland has good agencies and you should use one.

Serving Aberdeenshire as well as the city

Aberdeen is the commercial centre for a catchment reaching far beyond the city boundary, and for many businesses here the county is where the less contested opportunity sits.

Westhill, Dyce, Inverurie, Portlethen, Stonehaven, Ellon and Banchory all have their own search behaviour and considerably thinner competition than the city terms. A business genuinely covering them can hold several on a Local budget in a way that would be impossible in a larger conurbation.

The rule is the same as everywhere: build pages for the places you actually serve and write each one like somebody who has been there. Generating one page per settlement in Aberdeenshire from a template does not work. The previous version of this website did exactly that at national scale, producing 190 location and trade pages in a single day, and they earned twelve clicks between them.

What it costs

Campaigns start at £497 a month plus VAT: a £1,000 deposit then eleven monthly payments, or £5,500 for the year, covering five target keywords and five URLs. In a market this size that is usually enough for a business serving the city and a couple of surrounding towns.

If you are B2B and selling into the energy supply chain nationally rather than locally, the honest recommendation is often National at £997, because your buyers are not searching with a place name at all.

The free audit is how we tell which of those you are. Everything we publish a price for is on the pricing page.

How SEO works here

Four steps, then round again

SEO never finishes. The work runs on a loop, and you see the report every time round, good month or bad.

  1. Step 1Keyword research

We start with the terms that show buying intent, not the ones with the biggest numbers. Alongside those, lower-competition terms that rank sooner and bring early results.

  2. Step 2Competitor analysis

Then we look at who outranks you and why. Once we know what they are doing, we know what it takes to beat it.

  3. Step 3Implementation

The team does the work: on-page fixes, new content, links and local signals. Every item is listed in your monthly report, not buried in a dashboard.

  4. Step 4Reporting & revision

Each month you see what was done and what it moved. When something is not working, we change it rather than wait for it to come good.

FAQ

SEO in Aberdeen: the questions we get asked first

How much does SEO cost in Aberdeen?

SEO in Aberdeen costs £497 a month plus VAT on our Local package: a £1,000 deposit, then 11 monthly payments, or £5,500 for the year. That buys five target keywords and five URLs, and the price is published so nobody haggles on a call. Most Aberdeen businesses start there and move up once it is paying for itself.

How long before I see results?

Expect movement in eight to twelve weeks and ranking change you feel in enquiries between three and six months. Anyone promising page one in a fortnight is buying links or measuring something that never becomes a customer. The monthly report shows the direction early, so you are never paying blind.

Do I need to be based in Aberdeen to work with you?

No, you do not need to be in Aberdeen. We run campaigns across Yorkshire and nationally, and most of the work happens over calls and shared reporting, so distance costs you nothing. If you want to sit across a table from your consultant, we come to you. Local clients built this agency.

What do I actually get each month?

Every month you get a roadmap and action report listing what was done and what it moved, plus the work itself: on-page changes, content, citations and Google Business Profile posts. The report lands whether the month was good or bad, so you always know what your money did.

Can you fix a site another agency worked on?

Yes, we take over sites other agencies have worked on, often. The audit comes first, so you know what state the site is in before you spend another penny on it. If the last campaign left thin pages or bought links, clearing that out is month one, because nothing else sticks until it is gone.

Do you tie me into a long contract?

The packages run for a campaign year: a deposit, then eleven monthly payments. That is the honest length, because SEO produces little in month two and a rolling monthly deal means neither side commits. You know the total cost on day one, and we have time to do the job.
